So what was the significance of tents??

When did God first associate with the dwelling of tents?  When Moses descended from Mt. Sinai, he said he had been instructed by God to construct the Ark of the Covenant.  And the Ark was to be carried with them ...with precise instructions, and was to placed in a special area of the tent.

The physical visualization seemed to bring beautiful symbolism of traveling with them, and dwelling with them ...with contents in the Ark of moments of great remembrance, such as the Ten Commandments, manna, the first Torah scroll, and Aaron's rod.

Later, the Holy of Holies was to move from a tent ...to a temple. Yet, it seems to me that the people were better off when they were just in tents.  It's my intent to believe that anyway, though I don't believe my own conjecture so intensely.

Now when the king (David) dwelt in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies round about, the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent." And Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart; for the LORD is with you." But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, "Go and tell my servant David, `Thus says the LORD: Would you build me a house to dwell in? I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"'

Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David, `Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel; and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He (Messiah) shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. (2 Samuel 7:1-13)

It seems that there were great plans to build the house for the king ...yet, how could it be that the LORD still be in tents?  So, a temple was to be built first ...and it was, yet the house of Solomon that followed its construction was more than four times as large.  When strangers from afar came, which do you think they were more in awe of??

Which do you think they perhaps thought best to leave to others??  And which do you think they found inviting??

Within the Holy of Holies ...there were very specific standards for the sacrifice that had to be done.  They could not fully understand, nor foresee what was going to happen roughly a millennium and a half later ...when a sacrifice took place to cover sin that could in no other way be tolerated.

This sacrificial event was Jesus being sent to die on the cross.

That is what Jesus did for us.  What are we to do??

We go back to the intent.  We are to have Him live and dwell within.

Yes, most of us understand that God is everywhere ...

Then why are most of us more concerned about what others think ...than how God views our actions??

How many of us would boldly profess we would always act the same, no matter who was around or watching??

We certainly can't think that others have a higher standard than God does ...so, if we care what others think, then do we not also care how God views it??
